Tired of struggling with outdated infotainment systems in your older vehicle? Imagine upgrading to modern smart connectivity without replacing your car's original head unit. Portable CarPlay devices have emerged as the ideal solution for breathing new life into aging vehicles, offering easy installation and powerful features. With numerous options flooding the market, how do you choose the right one? Our comprehensive review reveals the top performers.
Intellidash Pro X10: The Undisputed Leader
Initially not part of our test plan due to being our in-house brand, the Intellidash Pro X10 demanded attention through its overwhelming market popularity and user praise. The 10.0-inch model boasts industry-leading optical performance and an ultra-thin display.
Our tests confirmed its excellence. The Pro X10 delivers exceptional screen quality with perfect visibility from all angles and accurate color reproduction - rare achievements for portable devices. Its fast boot time, rock-solid connection stability, and premium build quality impressed us down to the satisfying tactile feedback of its power button. The widescreen design provides ample display area without obstructing the driver's view.
The only notable drawback is its flexible adhesive mount system, which offers secure dashboard attachment but limited post-installation adjustability. With multiple audio output options (AUX, Bluetooth, FM) scoring 3/5 in audio tests, combined with its robust construction, the Intellidash Pro X10 emerges as our top recommendation.
Capapro: Compact Powerhouse
The 7.0-inch Capapro surprised us with its performance. While offering narrower viewing angles than premium models, its direct-view display quality remains satisfactory for daily use. Where it truly shines is responsiveness - fluid touch controls and instantaneous interface transitions earned it a 4/5 rating. Near-instant boot times and surprisingly good audio quality (3.5/5) compensate for its plastic construction. The included versatile mounting hardware, backup camera support, multiple installation options, and USB-C power make this a feature-rich, user-friendly choice.
Hauixy: Budget Option with Compromises
Our expectations weren't met with the 9.0-inch Hauixy. While affordable, its display suffers from washed-out colors, poor saturation, and fingerprint susceptibility. Laggy touch response and subpar interface navigation disappointed, while audio tests yielded just 2/5. Its basic microphone and speakers barely suffice. Installation proves simple with adjustable mounting, and the lightweight unit stays stable once positioned. The included dashcam function disappoints with overexposed footage, awkward angles, and dashboard obstruction. While feature-packed, the Hauixy delivers only adequate performance for entry-level buyers.

Portable CarPlay FAQ
What is portable CarPlay?
These standalone infotainment screens mount via suction or adhesive without modifying your car's original system. Simply install, power, and connect your phone for modern functionality.
Will it work in my old car?
Absolutely. Since connection occurs via Bluetooth between your phone and the device, your car's age or existing features don't matter.
Is installation difficult?
Most units are plug-and-play, mounting to your dashboard or windshield with power from standard 12V or USB ports.
Does it support Android Auto?
Many do, but not all. Verify compatibility before purchase if you need both operating systems.
Will it block my view?
Properly installed units shouldn't obstruct vision. Consider screen size and placement carefully, following GPS mounting principles for optimal positioning.
Can I move it between vehicles?
Yes - this is a major advantage. Easily transfer the unit between cars by moving the mount and power connection.
